Sri. G. Kuppuswamy Naidu was one of the earliest Indian entrepreneurs. He established Lakshmi Mills Company, a major textile yarn and cloth manufacturer, in 1910 in Coimbatore, India.
Feeling the urge to build a hospital for women and children after the demise of his step-sister, Smt. Rajammal, his dream was fulfilled by his brother & sons. The hospital started to serve women and children at the early stages.
He also planned a dedicated cancer hospital in Coimbatore and discussed the idea with Dr. C. S. Ramaswamy Iyer. The Sri G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Trust later expanded the hospital by constructing the cancer block.
After Sri. G. Kuppuswamy Naidu's demise in 1942, his younger brother Sri. G. Venkataswamy Naidu guided the Lakshmi Group. He also fulfilled his brother’s dream by developing the hospital and educational institutions.
