History of the Institution
The idea of starting a college at Kovilpatti was mooted on 29 April, 1966 by the auspices of the
G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Charity Trust for Education and Medical Relief. G. Venkataswamy Naidu College
was born on 30 June, 1966. The regular classes commenced with the blessings of the Zamindar of
Illayarasanendal, Shri K. R. Appaswamy Naidu. The college was formally inaugurated on 17 July,
1966 by Honorable Mr. M. Bakthavatsalam, Chief Minister of Madras.
The college began with four sections of Pre-University Courses — two in Science and two in
Humanities. The following year, the college was affiliated to Madurai University with
B.A. (History) and B.Sc. (Mathematics). Degree programmes in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and
Commerce commenced in 1989. Later, the institution was uplifted into a Post-Graduate College
with the introduction of M.Sc. (Mathematics).
In 1994, recognizing the evolving demand for higher education, the management introduced
Career-Oriented Self-Financing courses with excellent infrastructure on a dedicated campus.
B.Sc (Computer Science) was launched first under Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, followed by
BBA, B.Sc (Electronics), B.Sc (CDF), B.Sc (IT), B.Com, B.A (English), M.Sc (CS), M.Sc (IT),
