About the Programme
The Department of Physics was established in the year 1972 with the objective of imparting quality education and promoting knowledge in the frontier areas of Physics. Since its inception, the department has grown steadily in terms of infrastructure, academic activities, student achievements, and outreach initiatives. The department is equipped with well-furnished and laboratories catering to both major and allied physics courses. The classrooms are upgraded with ICT facilities, including powerpoint projectors, to enrich the teaching–learning environment. The faculty members are highly qualified, experienced, and actively engaged in research across various domains of Physics. Their continuous involvement in academic and research activities contributes to maintaining high academic standards within the department. Regular seminars, workshops, invited lectures, and faculty development programmes are organized to expose students to recent trends and innovations in the field. The frequent interaction with subject experts, eminent scientists, and academicians fosters a vibrant academic culture and encourages students to explore research and career opportunities. The department has a strong alumni network, with former students holding prestigious positions in academic institutions, research centers, government organizations, and IT industries. Many alumni contribute significantly by delivering guest lectures, mentoring students, and providing career guidance. The Department of Physics plays an active role in extension and outreach activities, especially in uplifting rural students in and around the campus. Through science awareness programmes, demonstrations, hands-on training sessions, and village outreach campaigns, the department promotes scientific temper and encourages higher education among rural youth. Special emphasis is given to bridging educational gaps and motivating first-generation learners. A remarkable achievement of the department is its consistent contribution to women empowerment through education.
